Winning Elections & Campaigns
Politics matters. Politics is about policies, and policies affect people. Whether you are rich or poor, retired or starting a career, working as a civil servant or running a business that is helping to finance the economy - politics matters to you.
Democracy isn't perfect, but it's always better than being having a leader in a military uniform. Ask Africa.
If you have an election or campaign to win, if you want to change a part of your world - let's talk.
What happens if you lose your next campaign?
Running for office or leading a political campaign is gruelling. Resources are scarce, public scrutiny is relentless, and the stakes couldn't be higher. Losing means letting down your staff, your family, your supporters and campaigners who invested precious time and money in your vision for change.
I know from experience that coming second sucks. Losing an election or campaign can feel devastating, not just professionally but personally.
Your hopes and dreams for yourself or for improving society evaporate. Regret sinks in, thinking about what could have been done differently. It's easy to obsess about the maths and messaging that may have swung the outcome. But campaigns are marathons, not sprints, requiring crisp strategy day in and day out to stay viable.
Without air-tight planning, preparation and execution, defeat looms no matter how worthy the cause. This is why every penny, volunteer and speech is so critical. One slip-up can mean the difference between a breakthrough policy gaining legs or not. The stakes are high because people's lives hang in the balance. Losing a campaign or election can mean others lose in the long term.
If you hate coming second and can't bear the thought of losing your next campaign, keep reading.
Winning elections and campaigns - how I can help
My role is far more than that of a detached presentation trainer. As your coach and campaign manager, I can help you and your team identify your USPs, your strengths and your “voice” or brand as well as formulate your message and map your strategy.
A 'Staggering Result': Cannock Chase 2010 – 14% Swing
I was delighted to be part of the Cannock Chase parliamentary campaign, which saw Aidan Burley elected MP for Cannock Chase in the 2010 election. The BBC called it a “staggering result”. This political campaign achieved the biggest swing in the country (14%) from Labour to the Conservatives. This involved turning a Labour majority of 9227 into a Conservative majority of 3195.
This seat was target seat 198 for the Conservatives and was generally considered by commentators and the Conservative Party as a No-Hoper seat. These pictures (apologies for quality) show where we were on the BBC swingometer.
