A great speech? Stand up for yourself. Use your voice. Your vote.

great speech

What are the ingredients of a great speech?

Many ingredients make a great speech and I am not pretending that blog is definitive or exhaustive. So bear with me….

We are all getting the hang of being picky as consumers. But we are often victims as shareholders and as voters. You can read my article about voter’s culpability, and why being in a democracy is not enough, in the Euroshambles in The Commentator.

After reading the article, a friend sent me this video clip which is well worth watching.

What makes a great speech?

I think this is a good example of a great speech.

  1. She uses a personal anecdote.
  2. She is self-deprecating.
  3. She empathises with the audience.
  4. She believes what she is saying.
  5. She is passionate about what she is saying.
  6. And she has something to say.

If you are going to make a speech see if you can ensure you follow these 6 rules. What’s the difference, by the way, between no 5 and no 6?

Maybe there is a message here for the people of Greece – and the rest of Europe.

Use your voice. h/t Liam Atkins
