How To Win Elections From Your Sofa: Political Online Marketing

I am really pleased, and actually, very excited to be releasing our latest service offering. Full service online marketing for politicians, candidates, prospective candidates and councillors.

Political Online Marketing & Campaigning

If you’re looking to reach a much wider audience, make a name for yourself as the candidate, get elected or re-elected, I would recommend taking a good look at your online marketing, your web presence.

When you Google your name, what comes up? Your name may well come up – that’s because you probably have your own url with your name in it. Like www.peterbotting.co.uk. or www.councillorblimp.co.uk etc. But where does that actually get you? You may well find that of the 500- 1200 a month who read your website currently – the majority are either the opposition, you, your staff or lobbyists. Which is not the point of having a website – it should be being read and accessed regularly by your constituents.

What about your online visibility when people are searching for things in your constituency and – incredibly – are not using your name in google? Would a constituent researching the by-pass, the travelers, the pending closure of the A & E department etc – would they find your website and what you have said about these issues WITHOUT  googling your name? If not – your website is only talking to those who already know you – no outreach, no persuasion, no electoral help at all.

Go on – try it out yourself. Google the name of the biggest town in your constituency – add in what you consider to be one of the top three issues in your constituency and see where your website comes up. Are you happy with the results? Ids it on the front page of google? Why not?

Is there an aspect of yourself or your campaign efforts that you’d like the public to be able to find? Easily – i.e. on the first page of google. How many visitors is your website attracting? Are they repeat visitors or regular visitors? What are they reading?

These are all questions you should be asking yourself – right now.

Traditional political marketing methods are becoming less effective and more expensive. Having a website is not enough. Neither is googling yourself and being smug about your personal page ranking.  Many politicians miss out on the powerful and real benefits that a well thought out and active online marketing campaign can afford – basic votes and coverage. This is because they either neglect or fail to do their political online marketing properly.

Whether you’re a new candidate or MP, and whether you’re brand new to online marketing or want to start again from scratch, our new online marketing service aim to do two things:

Get you noticed as a candidate & get you elected. Simple.

Take a look at our online marketing services page here, or contact info@peterbotting.com for more information.

P.S. I am NOT suggesting that you run your campaign is run from a sofa. Obama’s campaign was a mix of old and new campaign techniques. These included door knocking and lots of old fashioned campaign methods – that were added to, but not replaced by, online and social media campaigning. It is not a choice of either or – but both methods.

P.P.S. If you are sceptical – why don’t you google some of the keywords or phrases that I use in my online campaigning and see where and how my website ranks and how visible and findable my website is to to someone searching for help. Remember – do not use my name – just copy and paste these phrases and google them.
