People only look for a speaking coach if there’s a big event coming up.
None of my speaking coaching or none of my coaching generally is off the shelf. All of my work is working with people on big-ticket items, it’s an AGM speech, it’s a TEDMED speech, it’s a big political speech. They have massive skin in the game.
When I work with senior lawyers who are trying to become partners, they could be earning £170,000 as a senior associate. They’ve worked for 10 years to get to this level and now they have the chance to become a partner where they suddenly earn seven, £800,000. Or they get looked over forever. They’ve got skin in the game. Because all of these audiences are human, it’s not science.

A lot of problems with people is that they don’t want to become too braggy, so they sort of under-sell themselves, in sort of British way. You also don’t wanna be a chest banging arrogant sod that people think, well he’s done a lot, I don’t really like him. So I help people go the middle route where people understand that they’re a winner, but that they’re also likeable.
