Storytelling Coaching: Why You Need a Storytelling Coach

Do you need Storytelling Coaching?

Let’s see…you’re about to stand up and say your piece. A speech, a presentation, a pitch.

You’ll probably start by talking about something most people don’t really care about….YOU. Your credentials, your long list of awards, your time in the industry.

Now, look up and see how long it will take someone in the audience to check the time, get their phone out – even yawn!

Your audience is there to learn something or to be entertained, or encouraged to take action. So, the quicker you make them smile, make them feel something – the better.

The fastest, best and actually easiest way (from the speaker’s perspective) to do this is with a story.

Stories make everything better. People buy into them.

It doesn’t matter what the situation – an AGM speech, a finance pitch, a best man speech or even a phone call to your elderly Aunt – using a story to get your message across will instantly interest your audience.

And then, as if by magic, YOU suddenly become interesting and worth listening to.

…precisely what you want from a speech.

Storytelling and public speaking

Storytelling is a tool as old as time

This magic is called storytelling and it’s harnessed by some of the biggest brands and leaders in the world to trigger action and make people buy.

Storytelling is as old as the tribe collected around a woodfire passing on wisdom from their elders.

They hold tribes and groups together – whether they’re modern-day ones, like the Apple cult, or Instagram stars – or ancient ones, religions, race, political views.

But you can’t just make up and tell any old story.

You’ve got to tell the right story to the right people at the right time.

It’s got to be genuine and relevant, with a message the audience can buy into, sympathise with and easily pass on to others.

Corporate Storytelling Coaching

I believe that most people and organisations undersell themselves. I believe that every business could sell more, every political party and politician could win more votes and every person could aim at – and get – a better job and earn more money.

I am a storytelling coach and have helped businesses and politicians and individuals tell their stories for over 20 years.

Storytelling coaching can include the content-creation of speeches, website copy, political or brand videos etc. But, the most important part is developing stories that all of your stakeholders – whether they’re customers, staff, voters or donors – can get, remember, and pass on.

If you or your business needs some help developing, writing and delivering your unique brand story – speak to a storytelling coach.
