I don’t believe any of us have come away from the recent, ahem …. current, pandemic unscathed.

It’s hitting every business hard, from titans like BP and Virgin Atlantic to small businesses and the self-employed. Like so many others in the live events industry, I’ve seen speaking gigs and confirmed speaker coaching sessions dry up almost overnight and many in the events industry have had to lay off people in an effort to stay afloat.

It’s crap for so many people. We’re all having to adapt to life, the new norm and the new ways of working.

The biggest impact, of course though, is on the job market.

We’re set to see the gloomiest job outlook the UK has seen in nearly 30 years.

And it’s not just frontline jobs that are at risk either, executives at almost every level across some of the biggest firms are facing the chop.

Here in the UK, redundancy headlines are becoming the norm and this will increase when the furlough tap is slowly turned off. Oil giant BP plans to make 2,000 people redundant – mostly office-based jobs, including senior-level execs. Centrica is cutting 5,000 (mostly senior) roles, as they remove three layers of management entirely. Wow!

This thinning out of levels and senior roles will continue. None of us knows who’s next.

The only thing we do know is that competition for the few executive jobs remaining will be tougher than ever. Probably the toughest our generation has ever seen.

If you’ve recently been made redundant, or think you are at risk, let’s chat. I may be able to help you prevent redundancy or to handle the job search after redundancy.

Executive Interview Preparation

As an executive at your last or current workplace, when was the last time you faced a difficult, rigorous interview and selection process?

For many execs, this was years ago. For some very senior people, it might be a couple of decades ago.

Things have changed, especially when framed against the current economic backdrop. You’re going to be up against stiff competition for your next job. Often younger, often with more recent qualifications and often… cheaper.

Ultimately, employers can be even pickier – and trust me, they will be.

The interview process is also longer than ever, it’s more searching and more demanding. Five stage processes are common and quality candidates are excluded at every stage.

I can coach you through every hoop, preparing you to tell your story better to make sure each interview counts. With storytelling at the heart of executive interview preparation, it also covers:

  • CV writing and polishing
  • Zoom/Telephone/Virtual video conference interview preparation
  • Panel interviews
  • CEO 1-2-1’s
  • Assessment centres

Over 85% of my clients have got the jobs they want.

With over 30 years on both sides of the interview table, with a client list that includes IBM, SAP and Accenture, I understand what “they” want and as a long term storytelling coach I can help you tell your story better so that you too can be part of the 85% of my clients who get the jobs they want.

‘From over five thousand applicants I was offered one of twenty places at a top 3 consulting firm and couldn’t be happier. Without Peter’s help, it’s unlikely I would have made it through the first round. I would recommend Peter to any graduate who wants to achieve their very best in their interviews.’
– A happy client.
