A lot of people ask me, what’s the difference between a presentation and a pitch? And they often confuse the components that make a successful pitch with the ones that make a successful presentation. A pitch is a courtship. It’s a call to action. It’s a seduction. It’s asking people to move, its job is to trigger action to change behaviour and to get people to do something. A presentation is the transfer of knowledge between you and people you already know. So a lot of people say that in a speech – you should tell them what you’re going to tell them, tell them it and then tell them it’s again. This is superbly rubbish. This is what you do in a presentation.
