One of the most fun and rewarding pieces of work that I do is helping young graduates get their first proper job after university. This is a hugely competitive field. You know, there’ll be hundreds, sometimes thousands of people applying for a job at one of the big consulting groups on, at the big law firm in front of the big accountancy firms. And guess what? They’ve all got really good degrees. They’ve all got really good CVS. But getting through this three, four, five or sometimes six stage process is massive. There’s an away day, there’s a telephone interview. There’s all sorts of challenging things, but you know, what’s amazing is when I get the text or the phone call. One chap, he got his job with KPMG and he’d come to me after he’d fallen at early barriers a few times.
And he got his job at KPMG and literally you could hear him on the phone. He was bouncing around like he was a sort of human Pogo stick. And then I said, what do your folks say? He said, I haven’t told them yet. I’ve phoned you first. I’m going to phone them now. And then I spoke to his parents later and they said when he phoned them, he was like, yeah, I got the job. It was fine. But that rush, that rush that those kids get when, uh, they get their first job and they can now move out sometimes. Of course, the parents are quite excited about that too.
