Cannock Chase 2010 – 14% Swing

I was delighted to be part of the Cannock Chase parliamentary campaign. I worked closely with Aidan from long before he was selected until that extraordinary morning after the election when I phoned in the result to Jonathan Isaby at Conservative Home. Aidan Burley was elected MP for Cannock Chase in the 2010 election in what the BBC called a “staggering result”. This political campaign achieved the biggest swing in the country (14%) from Labour to the Conservatives. This involved turning a notional Labour majority of 9227 into a Conservative majority of 3195.

This seat was target seat 198 for the Conservatives and generally considered by commentators and the Conservative Party as a “No-Hoper” seat undeserving of target seat cash or resources. These pictures (apologies for quality) show where we were on the BBC swingometer.
